PHOENIX – Under bright lights, a roaring crowd of supporters lined the stage of Hope Church Movement’s Fall Fashion Show, a faith-centered event that blended color analysis and embracing inner

beauty and confidence.

Hosted by collegiate-focused ministry Hope Church Movement and led by speaker Wendy Smith, the

event on Oct. 8 at Arizona State University’s Tempe Campus highlighted the idea that fashion can reflect

inner faith and personal identity.

Smith shared her childhood experience with being told she “wasn’t model material”, and reminded

women that their worth isn’t measured by society's beauty standards.

“He doesn’t measure beauty with a tape measure,” Smith referred to her faith in Jesus while speaking to

the crowd, “he’s the standard of beauty.”

Throughout the evening, Smith showed how different color palettes can complement various skin tones,

hair colors, and eye colors. While demonstrating on volunteering audience members, she taught attendees

how to embrace their individuality by accentuating their pre-existing beauty with flattering pieces.

Grand Canyon University Freshman Kayla Boring was a crowd member who volunteered to be color-

matched by Smith during the event.

“I’ve been struggling with my fashion, so I thought, why not?” Boring said. “What stood out the most

was how she kept talking about how we’re all beautiful in our own different ways. We just have to find

our correct colors.”

The show’s message resonated across the audience, many of them being young women from ASU or

GCU. Organizers from Hope Church said their goal was to encourage women to see beauty as something

God-given rather than culture-defined.

Sienna Peck, the event’s MC and a member of Hope Church, said the team wanted to spread that message

across the community.

“We really just want to show girls that God made everyone beautiful,” Peck said. “It doesn’t matter what

skin tone you have or what hair color you have; there are colors that perfectly fit your features. God only

made beautiful, and that’s the biggest message we want to share.”

By the end of the night, laughter and applause filled the room as participants left with their color analysis

results and a renewed sense of confidence in who they are.
